Fir Gospel

December 26, 2010

Merry Christmas! Now don’t forget that as we celebrate this season of joy we ought not to forget the displaced and the dispossessed; those who stand at the margins of society. And who is more dispossessed in our consumeristic Babel than those whom we have made idols to stand silent in our living rooms? I’m talking of course about the “Christmas tree.” A gospel that does not speak to the liberation of the Douglas Fir is no gospel at all. Watch this video below and let this season be the one where you begin to be aware of how your holiday greed helps contribute to the oppression of the least of these. Viva la revolucion!

Which reminds me, every Christmas I try to do at least one plug for Richard Horsley’s The Liberation of Christmas: The Infancy Narratives in Social Context. Y’all should take a look at that book.

    Merry Christmas, Keith!
