A couple things:

I agree with the overall point you’re making: Western legal traditions did not develop simply from the Bible, or from canon law.

On the other hand, to buttress Gunter’s point, no matter how far you expand the source of our traditions, at no point was Islamic thinking a source of our laws, whereas Moses certainly is in some sense. So a “Conservative” position would still somewhat back Gunter against Williams, I think.
