New Urbanism

Dan, if you haven’t heard of it, you might be interested in the “New Urbanism” movement. They’re trying to create communities that overcome the problems of the “suburbs”.
Personally, I like either the city or the country; the in-between stuff seems to be artificial (and has none of the perks of either the city or the country). But many people have made the suburbs work as a real place of community (street-parties, etc.), so I’m in no position to preach.
